Up at 14th Floor, we’re a TV company always focused on the next striking perspective. There’s real breadth in our portfolio too, from personal insights into unconscious bias to the brazen delights of opulent train travel.
Not a bad start. This, the first show out of 14th Floor’s doors, won an RTS Award in the Documentary and Specialist Factual: History category. An emotive, insightful account of the racism Mark Walters faced while playing for Rangers, it also tells the remarkable story of Andrew Watson, Scotland’s black footballing trailblazer from the Victorian era.
Fronted by ebullient stage and screen star Alan Cumming, this series categorically takes the scenic route. Following our genial host on a deluxe trip aboard Belmond’s world-famous Royal Scotsman train, viewers get to pull back the curtain and see what it takes to run this luxurious operation. But we’re also treated to the fascinating people, cinematic landscapes and notable stopping points that make it one of the world’s greatest railway journeys.
An eye-opening exploration of the momentous part Scotland has played in shaping the world’s most popular sport. Presented by Dougray Scott, on pleasingly dry form, the programme features the world’s oldest football, a diverse range of Scottish footballing pioneers, plus the combustible rivalry between Scotland and England. With historians, pundits and players enlivening the story, it’s a gripping take on the country’s crucial role in the creation of the modern game.
